"Fern" - a 2021, 15.2h chestnut filly with chrome, with entirely European bloodlines. Fern had a few unimpressive starts on the track, retired sound, then had plenty of let down time prior to arriving here.
Fern is compactly built, with a substantial barrel that will take up the leg nicely. She is sporty, with a short back, sloping shoulder, and substantial bone. She has excellent feet (only shod up front).
Fern is quiet and easy to handle, as well as under saddle. She moves nicely off the leg, and you can take a feel of her mouth; a "leg to hand" sort of ride. She is learning to carry herself in a frame in all 3 gaits and improves drastically each day. This horse is straightforward, while also being super fancy, with an adorable daisy-cutter trot, and balanced, rhythmical canter.
She is an incredibly natural jumper, with gorgeous, knee-tucking form. She hacks out on a loopy rein, too, and is not spooky whatsoever. Fern has been cross-country schooling, and she impressed us with her "can-do" attitude, honesty and cleverness. She jumped logs, coops, ditches, banks and water with zero issue. She has also been fox hunting (third flight) and was a real professional, standing quietly at the checks and completely unfazed by hounds and commotion.
I could see Fern excelling in a variety of disciplines, from hunters to eventing to jumpers to fox hunting; she can do it all. This mare would be absolutely perfect for a kid or small adult to bring along; she is 100 percent amateur-friendly!
Fern has a sweet, quiet disposition, turns out easily with others, and is a dollbaby to handle. Stands on cross-ties, at mounting block, and for the farrier. She loads, ships and stands quietly on the trailer. Fern has perfectly tight, clean legs; you won't find a pimple on her.
