Caviart Farms, which began operation in the summer of 2007, is a lovely jewel nestled in a crown of regal horse farms along Bourbon County's famed "Avenue of Champions." This picturesque countryside, rich in equine history, reverently echoes the names of its world–class breeding farms and the names of racing superstars that were born, raised and retired to stud here.

The Chaffee family's purchase of the 230–acre farm at the intersection of Winchester Road and Thatchers Mill Road was the culmination of a multi–year search for an 'ideal' equine environment – the best place on earth for horses. Here they found the gently rolling fields and mineral rich water and soils credited with producing strong, "hickory–boned" horses.

After settlement on the purchase of the farm, a crew of workers was brought in to transform the former cattle farm and horse farm into a state–of–the art nursery. Miles of new fencing was completed, and barns were restored and renovated with new stalls, new windows, new skylights and proper ventilation and lighting. And fields were prepped for the coming mares and their offspring.

University of Kentucky experts examined soils and grasses – and deemed Caviart Farms to be one of the best soiled farms that they had tested. And they further authored a plan to ensure that horses in each individual field and paddock would receive perfect nutrition.

Finally in November of 2007, Caviart Farms, with phase I completed, celebrated their opening by transitioning their own horses to the farm and welcoming their first boarders. Excitement was in the air. Just as Kentucky Derby winner Spend A Buck had grown into a fine colt on the Maury–soiled fields of Caviart Farms, a new era of youngsters would be nurtured on those same fields – and add their names to the roll of champions born and raised at Caviart Farms on Winchester Road, "Avenue of Champions."

History

Buck and Judy Chaffee, who own and operate Caviart Farms, have been raising and racing standardbred horses for more than 30 years. Prior to relocating its expanding operations to the Paris, KY farm in 2007, the Chaffees raised their horses on a family farm in Frederickburg, VA. But the history of standardbred racing goes much farther back than that. Judy's grandfather was a successful owner and trainer of standardbreds in the early 1900's along the coast of Maine. And Buck's parents raised and raced horses in the mid-atlantic area. They were regular visitors to the winners circle at Rosecroft, Freestate and other east coast tracks.

The Chaffee's Caviart horses have campaigned across the country from New York to Illinois and everywhere in between. They have competed at all levels from the fairs of Ohio to the Breeders Crown.

Caviart horses are bred and raised to compete at the top levels of the industry. The farm regularly purchases top yearling fillies and retains only those mares that are deemed capable of producing stakes winning horses.

Their goal is to have a stable of the finest broodmares in the industry.
