Bridlewood Farm was originally established in the late 1940's as a breeding and training facility for Tennessee Walking Horses. It then became a well known farm for breeding and raising Standardbred race horses.

In 1990, the farm was purchased by veterinarian Dr. Barabara Schmidt and her husband, Frederick Abblett to serve as a base for her equine veterinary practice. The farm is also the home of their Hanoverian breeding operation.
